FREMONT — The NAIA Division II No. 24 Hastings College men's basketball team went into Wednesday' GPAC tournament game with the best shooting percentage (51.2) at the NAIA Division II level. But it was Midland that seemingly could not miss a shot.
The Broncos shot 47.6 percent (20-for-42) from the floor, but could not keep up with the Warriors' 32-for-55 night (58.2 percent), including 11-of-17 from 3-point range, during an 84-60 win for Midland in the first round of the GPAC tournament.
With 10:01 remaining in the first half, the Broncos trailed Midland 16-13, but an 18-4 run over the next five minutes opened the game up for the Warriors, who went into halftime with a 45-28 lead.
The Broncos (20-11) didn't help themselves by turning the ball over 26 times. Midland (19-11), which is receiving votes in the latest top 25 poll, recorded 32 points off HC turnovers.
Brady Lollman led the Broncos with 11 points. Jake Hamburger added 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting. Dane Bacon and Jake Marvin finished the game with nine points apiece.
