MINDEN — The St. Cecilia Hawkettes (20-3) overcame a cold shooting night Thursday to defeat Blue Hill (20-2) 44-42 in the Class C-2, Subdistrict 8 tournament.

The Hawkettes shot 37 percent from the floor, including only 2-of-19 from 3-point territory, but made up for their off-shooting night with stellar defense and clutch free-throws in the final moments.

“I think it was our defense that did it. Our shooting was bad,” St. Cecilia head coach Jahn Kile said. “I keep telling the girls all year that they’ll have nights where we can't put the ball in the basket real easy. In the last three minutes, I thought our defense really buckled down and didn’t give up much.”
