It doesn't look like it outside, but the collegiate softball season is here.
The Hastings College softball team will have to wait a little bit longer for the season to start, as its opening weekend tournament at Oklahoma Baptist, was canceled because of the snowstorm.
Seventh-year head coach Troy Baker said the team has been able to practice outdoors a few times, but that most of the preseason work had to be done inside the Physical Fitness Facility on the HC campus.
Regardless, he feels that if the Broncos were still set to play today, that he'd have his starting nine ready to go.
And that's what he's most excited about heading into the 2013 campaign — that his lineup brings back plenty of talent and experience from last season's 25-28 squad that went 10-10 in the GPAC to finish in a four-way tie for fourth place.
"Of the nine (projected starters), I think seven of them started more than 20 games last year at some time. Everybody through the lineup has played 50 or more games sometime throughout their college season. Experience-wise, we're there," Baker said. "It's a matter of finding it on the field. I think we have just as much experience as anyone in our conference."
