SEWARD — The second clash of girls basketball powerhouses Friend and Exeter-Milligan went east Friday night as the Bulldogs ended E-M's season in the Class D-1, District 1 championship game.
The 47-37 loss at Seward High School was emotional for E-M head coach Jackson Krejci; it not only broke E-M's 11-game winning streak, but also brought an end to the standout careers of seniors Megan Zwickl, Taylor Erdkamp, Alicia Bigelow, Jennifer Pribyl and Jackie Luzum.
"We had a great run, winning the conference title and coming into districts with 11 consecutive wins," Krejci said. "Losing to a good Friend team by 10 with one of your starters out isn't bad either. We will miss those five; they've had big careers in basketball and volleyball and they've been together since seventh grade."
