HHS falls short at state

Hastings High's Brycen Shea swims the butterfly portion of
the boys 200-yard medley relay Friday at the state
swimming meet.

LINCOLN — The Hastings High swim team took just two relay teams to the state tournament in Lincoln. Head coach Amber Hoffman knew the Tigers were going against tough competition, and it showed.

Both the HHS 200-yard medley relay team and the 200 freestyle relay team failed to advance to the second day of the swimming state meet.

The 200 medley team — consisting of sophomore Jack Foreman, junior Brycen Shea, freshman Johan Vizoso-Marino and junior Aiden Schneider — recorded a time of 1:53.06, nearly a full second faster than the Tigers' seeded time. Hastings High had the 25th fastest time. Millard South had the top time in the event with 1:34.49.

The same four swimmers competed in the 200 freestyle, finishing 26th with a time of 1:39.32. Ralston/Gross Catholic won the event in 1:28.44.

In both events, only the top 16 teams advance to the second day for the finals.
