Tigers hold off Lexington

Saturday in Grand Island.

GRAND ISLAND — The Hastings High boys basketball team outscored Lexington 13-4 in the second quarter of their Class B, district 5 tournament game.

That would prove to be big, as the Tigers created just enough separation in that span to help down the Minutemen 51-36 Saturday.

HHS led 13-10 after one quarter, but built its lead to 22-10 thanks to a 9-0 run to start the second. In that run, senior Grahm Schneider had four points and was one of three Tigers to score.

The win lifts No. 4-seeded Hastings (7-12) into the district semifinals against top-seeded Northwest (19-5) today at 6 p.m. at Grand Island Senior High.
