I
6 Tribland team headed to state

St. Cecilia's Shandra Farmer shoots against Sutton Feb. 7 in
Sutton. St. Cecilia and Sutton will play each other in the
opening round of the Class C-2 state tournament in Lincoln.

Six Tribland teams qualified for the girls state basketball tournament that opens Thursday in Lincoln.

Two teams made it in Class C-1, two in C-2 and two in D-2.

Fillmore Central and Minden are in the C-1 tournament, St. Cecilia and Sutton in C-2, and Deshler and Giltner in D-2.

FC, STC, Sutton, Deshler and Giltner all won their districts, while Minden received a wild-card berth after falling to Kearney Catholic in the subdistrict tournament.

One of the opening-round games will be an all Tribland affair, as St. Cecilia received the No. 2 seed and Sutton the seventh seed in the C-2 state tournament.

Of the six Tribland teams reaching state, two — Minden and Giltner — will be making repeat appearances in Lincoln. Minden was the C-1 runner-up last year, while Giltner fell in the opening round of the D-2 tournament in the Hornets' first trip to state in girls basketball in school history.

St. Cecilia didn't make it to state last year, but the Hawkettes will be looking for their second title in three years after winning the C-1 championship in 2011.
