18-point third quarter lifts Sutton past Thayer Central

GENEVA — The Sutton boys basketball team came ready to play Thursday night when it faced Thayer Central in the Class C-2, Subdistrict 7 final.

A strong second half that included an 18-point third quarter helped lift Sutton to a 55-27 victory. Noah Johnson led all scorers with 15 points in the Mustangs win.
Sutton defeated Thayer Central in two matchups earlier in the season.

"I just think that they execute so well. We knew what they were going to do, but they just do it so well," said Thayer Central head coach Clint Havel. "They set solid screens, they defend, they get up in you and they just get after you on both ends of the floor. They don't let you breath, and we just weren't ready to match the intensity and the style they brought tonight."
