Mary Lanning Memorial Healthcare’s first baby of 2013 came earlier than anticipated.
Damaris Colindres-Fonseca was born around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“It was the morning after New Year’s Eve. I just woke up and I was ready to have the baby,” her mother Guadalupe Fonseca said during an interview this morning.
Damaris was originally scheduled to be delivered via Caesarean section on Jan. 11.
“It wanted to come sooner, this baby,” Fonseca said.
Fonseca’s husband Juan-Carlos Colindres, a machine operator at Bubba Burger in Hastings, drove her to the hospital around 8:15 or 8:30 a.m.
Giving birth 10 days ahead of schedule, it was a big surprise for Fonseca to realize her daughter would be the first baby born at the hospital this year.
“We’re happy and we’re glad but it was a surprise,” she said. “It’s a blessing for us.”
