Seiler no longer a newbie

State Sen. Les Seiler of Hastings is pictured in his Hastings
law office Wednesday.

When the first session of the 103rd Nebraska Legislature convenes Wednesday, Sen. Les Seiler of Hastings will be starting his first full term as a senator. And he's happy to say he won't be the newest member on the floor.

"I won't be the newbie," Seiler said. "There will be 10 senators lower than I."

One year ago, the Hastings attorney was considering plans to take over the vacant District 33 seat in the Legislature that had been left by his friend Dennis Utter, who died in late December 2011 from lung cancer.

Seiler was sworn in as the newest Nebraska state senator Jan. 14, 2012, before a crowd of about 200 people at the Hastings Municipal Airport.
