On Saturday, a Hastings family corralled 11 pairs of feet into 11 pairs of snow boots, grabbed winter coats and headed out to their front yard to create a snow scene that would turn the heads of anyone driving past their house at 1912 W. 11th St.
Grant and Deb Nitzel and their nine children sculpted 11 snowmen into the likeness of each member of their family.
The snow family members are lined up like soldiers in the Nitzels’ now-grassy lawn, each adorned with facial features made of acorns, sticks and straw. Many are also wearing scarves and hats that belong to the respective members of the Nitzel family.
Grant, a family practice doctor at Mary Lanning Healthcare, has a taste for adventure and thought the activity would be a good family bonding experience.
“Some people might build one snowman, but he will go and build one per person,” Deb said.
