Renovations under way to make student union a hangout again

Besides removing a wall to allow natural light and a view of
the Japanese garden, Hastings College's Hazelrigg Student
Union has been repainted and will receive new furniture
later in the month.

For the first time in years, Hazelrigg Student Union on the Hastings College campus may serve as more than a pass-through for students.

The student union, which houses the book store, dining hall, coffee house and group meeting spaces, has always had open spaces for students to congregate.

However, most students would agree that the heavy and not-so-easy to move couches and the lack of tables haven't created the study or social spaces they want.

"It's almost like a waiting room for the cafeteria," said Kevin Wright, HC student association president.
