Then and Now: Abbott's Dairy

Then: For many longtime Hastings area residents, the name Abbott's Dairy probably stirs up memories of milk that came to the door in bottles via a delivery truck, the colorful containers of cottage cheese or chocolate ice cream.

"I remember right after the war when Abbott's delivered their milk in bottles by a horse-pulled truck," wrote LaDonna Bicknell in a Facebook post.

Now: The property at 318 W. First St. where Abbott's Dairy once operated is now a warehouse for the Dutton-Laison Co.

The company known as Abbott's Dairy started in Hastings in 1910 as part of the Blue Valley Creamery Co. based in Chicago, which sold butter products.
