Council approves funds for 3 police cars

Three new, all-wheel drive Ford Interceptors will join the fleet of Hastings Police patrol cars in the upcoming weeks following the approval of funds by the City Council Monday.

The 2014 models will look like the other Ford sedan the police department purchased last spring, which is distinguishable from older patrol cars by its black-and-white paint scheme and updated design.

The police department has just over a dozen patrol cars in its lineup, 10 of which are Chevy Impala sedans and four of which will be Ford Interceptors following the purchase of the new cars.

"There's a sweet spot that cars reach before the repair costs get too high," said Hastings Police Chief Pete Kortum.
