Hastings man killed on construction site

Jose Martin Briseño, 33, of Hastings was killed in an
incident at the site of the Bridges development project
Wednesday.

A 33-year-old Hastings plumber who died in an accident Wednesday at a construction site was remembered as a family man with a great sense of humor.

Jose Martin Briseño was killed when one wall of a trench dug for plumbing work caved in on him, said Adams County Attorney Donna Fegler Daiss. Hastings Fire & Rescue responded to a call of a man trapped at the construction site on Southern Hills Drive just north of U.S. Highway 6 just before 11 a.m.

"When they dug him out, I believe he was pronounced dead at the scene," Daiss said.

The construction site is building residential-style housing for Bridges, a state program that serves individuals with developmental disabilities who pose significant risks to themselves or the community. Briseño had been working for Witt Plumbing Inc. of Hastings.
