NELSON — A 22-year-old Nuckolls County man was killed near here around midday Saturday when the vehicle he was driving ran off the road, the Nuckolls County Sheriff's Office reported.
Drew Cassell was southbound on Road 3800, a gravel road, when the 2005 Ford pickup he was driving went into a deep ditch or ravine two miles east and a half-mile south of Nelson, a sheriff's dispatcher said.
Cassell was alone in the pickup and was not wearing a seat belt, the dispatcher said. The crash was reported to authorities at 12:10 p.m.
Sheriff Jim Marr investigated the scene. The Nelson Fire and Rescue squads also responded.
According to his obituary, Cassell had deep roots in the Nelson-Nora area.
He attended elementary school in Nelson and was a 2009 graduate of Lawrence-Nelson High School. He participated in sports, FFA, 4-H and livestock judging.
