NELSON — The Nuckolls County Sheriff's Office aided in the arrest Wednesday evening of a man accused of murdering his roommate in Alamogordo, N.M.
Nelson resident Lawrence Tarbert, 30, was arrested on a New Mexico warrant following several hours of interrogation led by a New Mexico investigator.
Tarbert had lived in Nelson only since November 2012 and had been working at Reinke Manufacturing in Deshler, said Brad Baker, Nuckolls County chief deputy sheriff.
In an interview Thursday, Baker said the June 11, 2011, death of 25-year-old Joseph Glenn Pruitt was not originally thought to be a murder. Soon, however, an investigation was under way with Tarbert, who had been Pruitt's roommate, identified as a suspect.
"When they found the body, they quickly made a press release that it did not look like there was foul play, which apparently caused some grief down there," Baker said. "They quickly determined that it wasn't, that there was foul play because he had a gunshot wound to his head."
