Marathon no longer to close 281

A marathon planned in Hastings this summer will no longer require the closure of U.S. Highway 281 on the morning of the race, and the update will alleviate some of the cost and liability issues the event previously posed for the City of Hastings.

At a work session Tuesday night, the Hastings City Council reviewed large, updated maps of the proposed marathon route alongside race planner Ron Alexander.

Alexander, the activities director at Adams Central High School, organized the inaugural Healthy Hastings Run For Your Life event in 2013, which drew more than 300 runners to its 5K, 10K and half-marathon races. This year’s proposed marathon will round out that event, which is slated for Saturday, June 21.
