proposed Duncan Field renovations.
The old lights at Duncan Field are coming down to make way for new.
The Hastings City Council held a special meeting before its work session Tuesday to approve a bid from Pro Tech Electric Services Inc. of Omaha for 56 new, more efficient fixtures that will replace the current 89 fixtures.
The project, which represents the first phase of the $2.4 million Duncan Field renovation, will cost $254,643 and will be funded by city tax dollars.
City Administrator Joe Patterson said crews will begin taking down the old lights immediately to ensure the new lights are up before baseball season in the spring.
"The new lights will be outside the playing area to ensure player safety and they also will enhance the quality of lighting on the field," Patterson said.
