RURAL ADAMS COUNTY — An Adams Central student was injured in a car-train collision around 8 a.m. today on Alda Road north of Juniata.
Dale Wiegert, a dispatcher with the Nebraska State Patrol, said 16-year-old Cassidy Wormstadt of rural Juniata was transported by ambulance to Mary Lanning Healthcare and then transported to Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
"I think she's being transported by ambulance because it's too foggy," Wiegert said of why she wasn't transported by helicopter to Lincoln.
A condition report was unavailable by press time this morning.
Wiegert said Wormstadt was southbound on Alda Road. She reportedly drove into the northbound lane, around the lowered railroad crossing arms, when her red 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier struck an eastbound Union Pacific train, which then dragged the car.
