Faces of Tribland: Hastings veteran represents state at inauguration

reservist assignment there earlier this month.

After a decade of service in the Navy, Tiffany Shorey of Hastings was finally able to visit the nation's heart and soul in Washington, D.C.

Now a Navy reservist, Shorey, 28, was among 45 sailors chosen to serve at the presidential inauguration ceremony Jan. 21. The three-week training assignment included the "game day" inauguration ceremony — as she called it — and a tour of the nation's capital.

"It was absolutely amazing," she said. "I met so many people from all over the United States. I always wanted to go to Washington, D.C., so when I got the email that said they needed 45 ushers for the presidential inauguration, I said, 'I'm doing it and I'm not taking no for an answer!' "
