Wednesday night’s game at Lynn Farrell Arena matched Hastings College’s second-ranked scoring offense in the GPAC against Dordt’s third-ranked scoring defense in the conference.
But it was the Broncos’ defense that had HC head coach Lance Creech’s attention at the end of the game. And not in a good way, as the HC men’s basketball team fell to NAIA Division II No. 9 Dordt 91-79.
The Defenders (14-3, 6-3 GPAC), who were voted to finish at the top of the conference in the preseason by the GPAC coaches, never slowed down on offense.
“(It was) probably more our defense never worked than their offense ever stopped,” said Creech, whose team fell to 13-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference. “They’re a good team, don’t get me wrong ... but I was just very disappointed with our intensity level defensively. I thought they were a lot more physical all night.”
Wednesday’s opponent marked the fourth ranked opponent in the last sixth games for the Broncos — three of which are in the top 15. HC is 1-4 against those ranked teams over the six-game stretch, with the only win coming against then-No. 25 Briar Cliff in an 88-69 victory Dec. 8, 2012.
