Hastings College's Melissa Thompson drives against
Dordt College's Elise Maresh Wednesday night at
Lynn Farrell Arena.
The Hastings College women’s basketball team hasn’t been at home since an 82-69 loss to then-No. 6 Briar Cliff on Dec. 8, 2012.
That loss sent the Broncos in a tailspin, dropping three of the next four games — all away from home.
It felt good to be back at Lynn Farrell Arena Wednesday against, said first-year head coach Carrie Hofstetter. But her team also needed to get back into the winning column.
HC (9-9, 4-4 GPAC) set the pace against conference foe Dordt, developing key scoring runs on offense, to post a 73-65 victory to snap a two-game losing skid. It was just the Broncos’ second win in six games.
“I thought we played fairly well to get a win against Dordt. They are a good team. They just came off of a win against Briar Cliff not that long ago, and played Morningside to two at Morningside, so they’ve been playing well,” Hofstetter said. “I thought we showed up today and guarded well. I felt like, offensively, we were a lot more patient than in the last few weeks.”
