SUTTON — Anyone who thought the Sutton boys basketball team was going to struggle after losing three key starters may want to reevaluate that.

Class C-2 No. 2 Sutton continued to perform at a high level on the court, defeating Silver Lake 71-29 Monday for its third consecutive victory to improve to 10-1 on the season.

Sutton head coach Steve Spongberg said his team has struggled shooting the ball at times this season, but senior Austan Rath got his team off to a hot start. Rath made 7-of-9 3-pointers in the first half and finished with eight on the night. He led all scorers with 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Spongberg said Rath's performance gave Sutton a spark to start the game.

"We talked to kids about getting off to a fast start. Austan is a senior and a three-year starter, so he's a guy that you kind of hoped would take that role," Spongberg said. "We expect him to step up in big game situations."
