No high school basketball team in the state may have a tougher schedule this week than the St. Cecilia girls.

The team travels to Class C-1 No. 1 Minden (11-2) Thursday before hosting Class C-1 No. 3 Kearney Catholic (12-0) on Saturday.
On Tuesday, the Class C-2 No. 3 Hawkettes began their daunting stretch with a 45-37 loss to the hands of Class B No. 3 Grand Island Northwest.

“I’m disappointed we didn’t win. But at the same time, they’re No. 3 in Class B and we played them pretty tough,” said head coach Jahn Kile, whose team fell to 9-2 after suffering its second loss in three games. “Being in C-2, it’s way tougher because you’re playing up two classes now.”

St. Cecilia, which averaged 50.3 points per game heading into the matchup, managed just four points in the first quarter and 14 points total in the first half against a stingy Northwest defense. The Vikings (11-1) led at half 23-14.
