Whippets too much for Hawkettes

Minden's Alaina Boudreau drives toward the basket against
St. Cecilia's Josie Jackson Thursday in Minden.

MINDEN — While it was foggy outside, one thing was clear inside the C.L. Jones Middle School gym Thursday night.

It felt like the postseason when the Class C-1 No. 1 Whippets hosted Class C-2 No. 3 St. Cecilia.

But the same woes that have been hurting St. Cecilia as of late — missing key shots or failing to get rebounds — made things easier for Minden to pull away.

The Whippets (11-2) took advantage of two key scoring runs to post a 46-35 victory and hand the Hawkettes their second consecutive loss and third in the last four games.

"We're happy that we were able to hang in there and get the win," Minden coach Rick Chramosta said. "St. Cecilia is a great basketball team, a great defensive team. We knew they would make it tough for us. It was a battle, and we were fortunate to get it."
