Patriots lose close one

The Adams Central girls basketball team had a chance to send its game Saturday against St. Paul into overtime in the final moments but couldn’t make a play in suffering a 38-25 loss.

After trailing by eight points on a field goal following a Patriot (4-9) turnover on the opening possession of the final quarter, Adams Central’s defense tightened over the final seven minutes and gave its offense the opportunity.

The Wildcats (8-4) were forced into five turnovers in the final 3:50 of the game and Adams Central junior Josie Bumgardner highlighted a late Patriot rally with 10 points in the final stanza.

“That’s the way our girls have been all season and they just never give up,” Adams Central coach Tim Marker said.
