St. Cecilia opened a tough week with a surprisingly tough win.
The Class C-2 No. 3 Hawkettes (9-0) hit only 36 percent of their shots — including no three-pointers — in their lowest offensive output of the season, a 38-20 win over Lincoln Christian (2-9).
The silver lining for head coach Jahn Kile is that his defense came to play, as the Hawkettes limited the Crusaders to just eight baskets while forcing 19 turnovers off of 14 steals.
“Your offense will come and go — somedays you’ll make shots and somedays you won’t. Defense is something that wins you those tight, close games. I thought we played really good defense,” Kile said.
