Classic championship Dec. 28, 2012, in Roseland.
With the holiday season over and high school sports getting back into the swing of things, the winter sports season is starting to heat up.
High school basketball teams have a little more than a month before district and subdistrict tournaments begin. The number of games remaining on the schedules is dwindling down, but the importance of a win increases with each game.
Around this time of the year, teams are starting to see more district and conference opponents, which often makes for a more exciting game because of how well the two teams know each other. And over the next week, the Class D-1 No. 8 Bruning-Davenport/Shickley boys basketball team is going to become very familiar with its subdistrict foes.
The Eagles kick off a tough stretch of games with a road-contest against McCool Junction (10-1) tonight, both teams will compete in the Class D-1, Subdistrict 2 tournament in late February. On Friday, BDS hosts another D1-2 foe in Exeter-Milligan (9-3). Just seven days after facing the Mustangs in a regular season game, the Eagles will play McCool Junction again in the Crossroads Conference tournament, in which Exeter-Milligan will also be competing.
