SUTTON — Sutton girls basketball head coach Monica Smith knows her players didn’t play their best game on Tuesday against Fillmore Central.
In the first half, the Fillies were 5-of-19 from the floor and had scored just 15 points. But in the third quarter, Sutton nearly doubled its score and shot 50 percent from the floor.
The Fillies overcame a fourth-quarter deficit and hit some key free throws in the final minute of the game to defeat Fillmore Central 43-37.
“We told them that offensively we need to be more patient and pound it inside,” Smith said. “The shots weren’t going down, so we needed to get to the free-throw line or get easier shots to get ourselves going.”
