The Hastings College wrestling team didn't have much time to rest after Saturday's home invite before facing NAIA No. 14 Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday.
The Broncos, who are receiving votes in the NAIA top-20 poll, went into the final match of the night with a chance to win, but HC could not capture the upset, falling 27-16. The loss is the first conference defeat for Hastings, which is 0-6-2 in duals this year and 0-1-1 in GPAC duals.
"I'm not real excited about losing, but on the same hand, that's the No. 14 team in the nation for a reason. We had a shot going into the last match," said HC head coach Shawn Kelley, who is in his sixth season at the helm. "We just didn't have the match-ups tonight.
"(Alec) Chanthapatheth goes up against a highly ranked guy, (Connor) Blanco goes against another highly ranked guy. Those are two guys that we count on for wins in a lot of our duals."
