Kenesaw/Shelton wins TVC title

Kenesaw's Michael Duffy wrestles South Central's Tony
Francis in their 195-pound match of the Twin Valley
Conference tournament Thursday in Harvard.

HARVARD — For the second straight year, the Kenesaw/Shelton wrestling team was crowned Twin Valley Conference champions. And the team did so in dominating fashion Thursday night.

K/S had seven first-place finishers from the 14 weight classes. South Central had the second most champions with four.

Kenesaw/Shelton finished the tournament with 71.5 points, while South Central was second with 53.25 points. Red Cloud/Blue Hill, which had two champions, placed third with 48.5 points. Franklin finished fourth (33) and Harvard was fifth (14.5).
Kenesaw/Shelton head coach Joel Ferguson said his team has been getting better with each competition.

"I thought we wrestled really tough right out of the gate. We had really good first-round matches. Those close matches we ended up winning, so that was good," Ferguson said. "We've seen improvement every week. There are some kids who went 1-2 in tournaments and now they're going 2-1. That's big for team scores. We started to wrestle more complete, but we still have a ways to go. We'll see how it goes."
