KEARNEY — The situation was all too familiar for the St. Cecilia girls basketball team when it played Saturday at Kearney Catholic.
Entering the game on a two-game losing streak — a 10-point setback to Class B No. 2 Northwest on Tuesday followed by a heartbreaking overtime loss to C-1 No. 1 Minden on Thursday — the Class C-2 No. 3 Hawkettes played liked they were in need of a nap. In the midst of a four-game stretch against teams with a combined 56-1 record, St. Cecilia has had to expend a lot of energy in a short amount of time in three of those games.
And just like last season’s matchup with the Stars, which came at the same time on the schedule, sloppy, sleepy play was the Hawkettes’ Kryptonite in a double-digit loss, 42-31.
“I’ve got three words — out of gas,” said St. Cecilia head coach Jahn Kile, whose team fell to 9-3.
