KEARNEY — Sophomore Brooks Asher had six 3-pointers for 26 points, while sophomore Alex Kitten scored the first seven points of the game and finished with 14 points in Class C-2 No. 5 St. Cecilia’s 49-40 win Saturday at Kearney Catholic.
As guady as those offensive numbers were, though, the Bluehawks inability to convert from the free throw line nearly cost the team. St. Cecilia, which upped its winning streak to seven games, hit just 3-of-13 free throws combined in the second and third quarters.
That allowed Kearney Catholic to cut a 16-point St. Cecilia lead down to four, 38-34, when Matt Moore drained a 3-pointer for the Stars early in the fourth quarter.
