The Adams Central girls basketball team may be playing its best basketball of the season at the right time.

With four games and the conference tournament remaining on the schedule, the Patriots have won seven of its last 11 games after Saturday's 54-44 victory over Grand Island Central Catholic. AC, which improved to 7-9 after starting the year 0-5, held off a late Crusader rally thanks to its defense, which held GICC (6-10) to just 29-percent shooting in the second half.

Patriot head coach Tim Marker said his team handled the pressure of a close game in the fourth quarter — a situation that AC has found itself in several times this season. Marker said while his team is young, it's playing with the right mindset.

"One of the keys to our whole team is our attitude and our effort," Marker said. "Our effort has been great all year, and everybody that plays us knows they're going to get great effort from us."
