SIOUX CITY, Iowa — In a battle of two teams receiving votes in the latest NAIA Division II poll, the Hastings College men's basketball team knocked off Briar Cliff 82-74 on the road Saturday.
The win makes HC, which improved to 17-6 overall and 8-5 in the GPAC, tied for fourth in the conference standings — 1/2 game ahead of Briar Cliff, which fell to 16-6 overall and 7-5 in the GPAC. The Broncos swept the season series with Briar Cliff, also winning 88-69 Dec. 8, 2012, in Hastings.
On Saturday, the Broncos shot nearly 60 percent from 3-point range — connecting on 7-of-12 treys. Dane Bacon made 3-of-4 shots from behind the arc on his way to scoring 11 points. Brady Lollman led all scorers with 24 points, hitting 8-of-10 shots from the field and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. HC finished with seven players scoring at least eight points, though Bacon and Lollman were the only players to finish in double figures.
HC women fall in OT
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Hastings College women's basketball team took NAIA Division II No. 5 Briar Cliff into overtime, but the Broncos could not complete the upset in a 79-70 loss.
Cami Bruckman hit her only 3-pointer of the night with eight seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game 64-all and send the contest into overtime. Bruckman led all scorers with 23 points while also grabbing eight rebounds. Tanasia Uhrig and Laurel Zwiener added 10 points each for HC.
HC dropped to 11-12 overall and 6-7 in the GPAC with the loss, which snapped a two-game win streak for the Broncos, while Briar Cliff improved to 18-4 and 9-3.
