On Tuesday night, the Adams Central boys basketball team fell victim to a hot start by crosstown rivals Hastings High.
On Thursday, it was the Patriots who had the hot hand.
Adams Central hit its first four field goals of the game and outscored Lexington 25-7 in the first quarter en route to a 67-35 rout. The Patriots scored 50 points in the first half and had four players with at least eight points in the opening two quarters against Lexington (3-13).
"It was important to come out and start fast because (Lexington) is a lot better than its record. And I know that's easy to say. ... They've played a lot of good people and they've competed with them," said Adams Central head coach Zac Foster, whose team improved to 14-3. "We really tried to sell our guys to come out and be mentally focused early, and I really think we were tonight."
The Patriots shot lights out in the first half, going 19-for-28 from the field (68 percent). Seniors Jake Fowler and Tyler Kirkegaard led Adams Central in the first half with 10 points each on a combined 7-of-8 shooting.
