DONIPHAN — The Class C-2 No. 9 Doniphan-Trumbull basketball team has seen its fair share of competition. Since Christmas, the Cardinals’ seven opponents, going into Tuesday, have a combined 62 wins.

Tuesday’s game against Kearney Catholic marked the sixth of an eight-game stretch in just 16 days. And the Stars weren’t going to make it easy for D-T.

The Cardinals held on in the final seconds to defeat Kearney Catholic in a physical, 43-39 victory. Doniphan-Trumbull improved to 11-2 on the year and 5-1 in the last 13 days.

“This is tougher than an (National Basketball Association) schedule. In less than 14 days, we’ve played six games against some good teams,” said the Cardinals’ head coach Steve Hartman, whose team is 7-1 since Christmas.
