BLASNITZ: Grizzlies off to a familiar start

Halfway into the school year, it has been an exciting time for Rock Hills boys athletics. In the fall, the Grizzlies advanced to the Kansas 8-Man, Division I football state championship game. And now, nearly two months into the basketball season, Rock Hills has one of the best records in Class 2A at 11-1.

Success is not a foreign concept for the Grizzlies basketball team, which made the jump this season from Class 1A to 2A — the equivalent of going from Class D-1 to C-2 in Nebraska. Rock Hills is coming off back-to-back 15-win seasons and appears to be on its way to another.

"I think we have enough kids in our program that have been fairly successful the last couple of years and know what I expect out of them," said Grizzlies head coach Matt Hesting, who is in his 27th year as a head coach. "I think our success in the football season, where we got to the state finals, I think that kind of catapulted our desire and expectations to carry that into the basketball stuff."
