Concordia's Brandon Newhouse blocks a shot by St.
Cecilia's Thomas Skoch Monday night in the first round of
the Centennial Conference tournament at Chapman
Gymnasium.
Former Hastings High head coach Ken Kulus brought his Omaha Concordia boys basketball team to Chapman Gymnasium to battle an old friend and for a chance to move on to the next round of the Centennial Conference tournament.
St. Cecilia head coach Kevin Asher once shared responsibilities with Kulus, who was the TIgers' head coach during the 2005-06 season, when the two coached together at Millard West from 1999 to 2002.
After an even first quarter, the Bluehawks slowly built a lead thanks in large part to an 8-of-15 performance from beyond the arc to earn a 54-44 win Monday.
The win sends St. Cecilia (6-9) to a second-round contest tonight at Class C-1 No. 7 Lincoln Christian (9-5). The two teams met earlier this month, when the Crusaders defeated the Bluehawks 51-41 on Jan. 5.
