AC grapplers come up just short against Northwest

GRAND ISLAND — When Tuesday night's dual between Adams Central and Grand Island Northwest came down to the final match, neither coach was particularly surprised.

As it turned out, Jack Barry's 10-7 win over Northwest's Zach Dammann at 160 pounds wasn't quite enough for the Patriots, who trailed 39-34 entering the finale. Barry's victory by decision was good for three team points, but left Adams Central with a 39-37 loss.

"It's always a fun dual," said Adams Central coach Dan Lonowski, whose team was coming off winning the LouPlatte Conference championship t Saturday. "It always comes down to the end with these guys.

"I'll tell you what: We had Northwest's number for a few years and they've got ours right now — that's just the way it is."

Adams Central (10-4) has lost three consecutive duals to the Vikings (12-8). However, Northwest coach Brian Sybrandts said none of the dual victories have come easy.
