STC picks up 8th straight win

St. Cecilia's Zach Kitten drives to the basket against Aquinas
Catholic's Nathan Kovar Friday night at Chapman Gymnasium.

A first quarter shoot-out turned into a rout by the St. Cecilia boys, who stretched their winning streak to eight Friday.

Three 3-pointers apiece by the Bluehawks' Alex Sheehy and David City Aquinas' Trev Semrad got the game off to a hot start. But by the end of the third quarter, St. Cecilia opened a 21-point gap over the Monarchs and kept a big cushion for a 56-43 win.

STC (12-3) clamped down on Semrad in the second half, who cooled to just six points after reeling off 14 by the break.

"We knew we had to slow him down and make his looks tough," said STC coach Kevin Asher about Semrad. "I thought we did a good job on him. It was just the fact that he had 14 at half and we did a great job on everybody else. As long as you are doing that, our defense was tough. We didn't allow anything easy."
