Minden, Fillmore Central fare well at D-T invitational

DONIPHAN — With district competition less than two weeks away, Minden and Fillmore Central found plenty to like about their performances at Saturday's Doniphan-Trumbull invitational.

The Whippets had two individual champions and finished third in the team standings with 103.5 points in a meet that was won by the Grand Island junior varsity (202.5), while Tri County finished second (133). The Panthers had three first-place finishers, ending fourth as a team with 101.5 points.

"This meet was good competition for us," Minden coach Phil Hoyt said. "The JV teams that came in from the larger schools have some good kids and it's a good meet. We've got a lot of kids who are doing a good job for us right now, so we feel like we're headed in the right direction."

Quinn Rutt (170 pounds) and Samuel Fiest (182) led the Whippets with first-place finishes. Rutt improved his season record to 25-4, while Fiest is now 29-2.
