It had been three years since the Adams Central girls basketball team beat cross-town rival Hastings High. On Tuesday night, the Patriots entered the Tigers' packed gymnasium on a mission to change that.

The Patriots seized all the momentum thanks to a big run in the second quarter, then held off a valiant comeback effort from the Tigers to finally earn a 59-51 win.

"I think this will just give our younger kids more confidence. This was a big game with a big atmosphere," said Adams Central head coach Tim Marker, whose team improved to 7-11 on the season.
