BLASNITZ: D-T boys raising the bar

2012, at Chapman Gymnasium.

Over the last three seasons, the Doniphan-Trumbull boys basketball team has been under a process of changing its image in the high school basketball scene.

From 2006-2010, the Cardinals posted a record of 32-55 in four seasons. But in the 2 1/2 seasons since then, D-T has won 40 games while losing just 20.

"It starts with the kids. We've got a great bunch of kids that are going through our system right now," said first-year Doniphan-Trumbull head coach Steve Hartman. "You can see the success they had in football, and they had some success in track and field last spring, so athletically we knew that the bottom line was we were getting a great bunch of athletes and good kids.

"They have great character and I think that's a product of good parenting and great community support, and that's what we have right now."
