It was a special night for the Class C-1 No. 5 Adams Central boys basketball team Tuesday.
The Patriots showcased their offensive firepower, shooting 51 percent in a 70-37 rout of Ord in the quarterfinals of the LouPlatte Conference tournament. It marked the second straight game AC has scored more than 65 points and won by more than 30 points.
But that's not what made the game special. After four years of hard work and sacrifice, the Adams Central seniors played their last home game as members of the Patriot basketball team.
"This is probably one of the best group of seniors I've ever been around," said Adams Central head coach Zac Foster, whose team improved to 15-3. "Any success they have, they deserve. I felt really happy for them. The season they're having is not an accident, it's because of how much time and effort they've put in over the years."
The Patriots have eight seniors on the roster, including all five starters. Of Adams Central's 70 points Tuesday, 66 were scored by seniors. Senior Blake Overmiller led AC with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while fellow senior Matt Brown tallied 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Seniors Tyler Kirkegaard and Derek Shuck added 11 points each.
