Faces of Tribland: James Carson

James Carson, portraying Harold Hill, rehearses a scene for
Hastings Community Theatre's production of "The Music
Man" in 2011 at the Masonic Temple.

As manager of Walmart Supercenter in Hastings, James Carson is the one to whom the rest of the store's employees look to for guidance and leadership.

And while he brings the same level of dedication to his many volunteer roles with the Evangelical Free Church, Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce, Crossroads Center Rescue Mission, Hastings Community Theatre and other organizations, he is perfectly content with letting others handle the heavy lifting when it comes to taking charge.

"I like the support role," he said. "At work, I'm in charge, but as a volunteer I like to be able to find out where the need is and help fill it."

Carson was honored by the Hastings Sertoma Club with its most prestigious award, "The Service to Mankind Award," which he accepted during the club's noon meeting at Valentino's Restaurant Monday afternoon.
