SUTTON — "Soaring Into the Future" was the 2013 theme of Sutton's annual Dug Out Days celebration, highlighting a first-time exhibit that was on hand and "hands-on," courtesy of the Strategic Air and Space Museum.
The actual Strategic Air and Space Museum is near Ashland, but the mobile unit sets up displays and learning stations throughout Nebraska. In Sutton, the exhibit was open for much of the day Saturday at the Federated Church.
John Thompson, the museum's education outreach coordinator for central and western Nebraska, coordinated the event for Sutton's festival.
"Our goal is to reintroduce kids to NASA, to energize their curiosity about science, as was present in the Apollo generation," Thompson said.
