NELSON — Three Superior residents escaped with their lives and were not even in the hospital for long after the pickup they were traveling in collided head-on with a loose flatbed trailer near here Thursday night, the Nuckolls County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Scott Hoard, 48; his son, Noah, age 9; and a friend, Alex Thayer, 19, all were taken by ambulance to Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior for treatment of injuries, Chief Deputy
Sheriff Brad Baker said. All three were home from the hospital by the next day.
“It was a horrific crash,” Baker said. “You couldn’t do it twice without a fatality.”
Scott Hoard, with his son and Thayer as passengers, was southbound on the highway about 2 1/2 miles north of Nelson at the time of the crash, heading home from a ballgame in Fairfield in a 2012 GMC Sierra K1500 pickup.
