Search for boys ends in 2 hours

Authorities spent about two hours searching for three boys who walked away from Hastings Regional Center campus before finding them in a nearby cornfield Monday afternoon.

About 4 p.m., two 17-year-olds and one 18-year-old left the grounds of the regional center, said Marla Augustine, public information officer with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Nebraska State Patrol Sgt. Darwin Daily said the boys were found just north of Adams Central Junior/Senior High School.

"We saw their heads peeking out of the corn," Daily said. "If the corn had been any taller, we wouldn't have seen them."
